Many different religions have used meditation for a long time as a central component, but also in forms of exercise. Meditation techniques and relaxation can go hand and hand, bringing the person to a higher state of tension relief that can only occur through using meditation techniques.

Meditation is a form of concentration that allows the participant to either travel inward through a journey of self discovery or focus outwardly on a central object. Meditation and relaxation occur when the participant is able to achieve a level of concentration that can allow for them to let go of their own mental stress.

For centuries meditation has been a practiced regiment, and is recognized by religions as part of their organized religious methods. Hinduism, Buddhism and other so-called eastern religions all use meditation in their faith. Buddha was thought to have achieved his own spiritual enlightenment while meditating.

How They all Work

To reach a state of meditation and relaxation, learning to meditate is your first step. For some, the image that springs to mind is one of sitting with their legs crossed,shoes off and at an awkward angle with their eyes closed while they mumble phrases over and over again. Whilst this image exemplifies the classic meditation and relaxation position, it does not mean this is the only waymeditation technique and position.

Being able to lie down either on their back or side is the best position to meditate for some people. In this form it has been suggested, a person can concentrate on each muscle group and allow for the entire body to relax, reaching the point where meditation and relaxation meet has one.

A person can get to a point where they are in a deep meditative zone by concentrating on their breathing. Concentrate on slowly breathing whilst being in a comfortable postion. Again, this may mean sitting in a comfortable chair, lying down or lying on your bed. Make sure that you are physically comfortable in order to obtain a beneficial and deep meditation.

To free the mind and body of all of its stresses you need to concentrate on relaxing the body physically. By first learning how to relax the body, a person can then journey to their inner self and work on releasing all of the worries and thoughts that build up in the mind. By picturing these problems flowing outward, a person can physically let go of their mind stress.
